Frequently Asked Questions

This section helps visitors understand the flow, scope, and initial readiness before starting the service process.

What is Certification and why does my company need it?

Certification is an independent third-party assessment process (like GIS) to ensure that your company's products, services, or management systems meet the requirements of specific standards (e.g., ISO, SNI, or ISPO).

Companies need it to:
1. Enhance credibility and business reputation.
2. Meet tender/bidding requirements or government regulations.
3. Build trust and quality assurance for customers.

Is GIS (Global Inspeksi Sertifikasi) a consulting firm?

No. GIS is an independent Conformity Assessment Body (Certification Body). Based on ISO rules and KAN (National Accreditation Committee) guidelines, a Certification Body is not allowed to provide consulting services to the clients it certifies in order to maintain objectivity and impartiality.

Document preparation or consultation must be done independently by your company internally or by using a consulting service separate from GIS.

What is the difference between ISO 9001, ISO 14001, and ISO 45001 Certification?
  • ISO 9001: Focuses on Quality Management Systems. Ensures company operations consistently deliver products/services that meet customer satisfaction.
  • ISO 14001: Focuses on Environmental Management Systems. Ensures companies manage the environmental impacts and risks of their business operations.
  • ISO 45001: Focuses on Occupational Health and Safety (OH&S) Management Systems. Ensures companies protect workers from the risk of work-related injuries and illnesses.
What is KAN Accreditation and why is it very important?

KAN (National Accreditation Committee) is an official body under the Government of the Republic of Indonesia authorized to grant accreditation to Certification Bodies like GIS.

Certificates issued by a KAN-accredited Certification Body have strong legality, are officially recognized by the state, and are internationally recognized (through mutual recognition agreements / MRA). This ensures your certificate is legitimate and valid for large project tenders.

Is SNI certification mandatory for my product?

It depends on the type of product. The government establishes two types of SNI:

  • Mandatory SNI: Required by relevant ministries for Security, Safety, Health, and Environment (K3L) reasons. Examples: Helmets, Electrical cables, Bottled Drinking Water (AMDK), Children's Toys. These products cannot be sold without the SNI logo.
  • Voluntary SNI: Not legally required, but companies obtain it to provide extra quality assurance to gain a competitive edge in the market.

GIS, through our Product Certification Body (LSPr), can help test and issue SNI certification for your products.

Who is required to take the Tourism Business Certification (LSUP)?

In accordance with the regulations of the Ministry of Tourism and Creative Economy (Kemenparekraf), tourism business actors are required to have business standard certificates. This includes:

  • Hotels (Star and Non-Star Classification)
  • Restaurants and Eateries
  • Travel Agencies
  • Tourism Areas

This certification ensures that your business meets the standards of service, cleanliness, and safety for tourists.

How long is the validity period of an ISO or SNI Certificate?

Generally, ISO Certificates and most SNI Certificates are valid for 3 (three) years from the date of issue.

However, for the certificate to remain active during that period, your company must undergo a Surveillance Audit conducted once a year by the GIS team to ensure consistent application of the standards.

How long does the audit process take until the certificate is issued?

The processing time varies greatly depending on the type of certification (ISO, SNI, LSUP), the size/scale of the company, the level of risk complexity, and your company's document readiness.

On average, for Management System (ISO) certification, the process from Stage 1 Audit to certificate issuance takes about 1 to 2 months if there are no major non-conformity findings that take a long time to rectify.

What are the initial requirements before applying for certification at GIS?

The basic requirements include:

  1. Having a legal business entity (Deed of Establishment, NIB, Business License).
  2. Having implemented the targeted system or standard (e.g., ISO 9001 SOPs) for a minimum of 2 to 3 months of operations.
  3. Having conducted at least 1 Internal Audit and Management Review internally within your company before our external audit.
How do I verify the authenticity of a certificate issued by GIS?

As a form of transparency and digital security, we provide a public Certificate Verification portal. You or your clients can open the Verify Certificate menu on our website, then enter the Certificate Number or Company Name to match the data validity directly from our central database.

How much does it cost to get certified?

Certification costs (Audit Man-Days) are calculated specifically based on international guidelines (IAF). Cost components are influenced by:

  • The business scope of the company.
  • The total number of effective employees.
  • The level of operational risk (High/Medium/Low).
  • The number of locations or branches to be audited.
